Seconds decide whether a visitor enquires or bounces. Here's how load time shapes your enquiries – and what actually makes a site fast.

Someone searches for a tradesperson, a restaurant or a clinic near you, taps your website – and waits. In exactly those seconds, the decision is made between an enquiry and a bounce. Wait too long and they are at a competitor before your homepage has even finished loading.
Speed here is not a technical detail – it is a direct revenue factor. And the research on it is clear.
Together with SOASTA, Google analysed behaviour on real mobile pages and found a clear pattern – the longer the load time, the higher the probability of a bounce:
In other words: just the jump from one to three seconds drives almost a third more visitors away. For a local business that is not an abstract figure – those are lost calls, bookings and contact forms.
Every second of waiting is an invitation for your visitors to click away somewhere else.
It is not only about avoiding bounces – speed actively wins more conversions. The Google-commissioned Deloitte study "Milliseconds Make Millions" analysed mobile data from 37 brands. The result: even a 0.1 second improvement in load time has a measurable effect across the whole funnel.
These figures come from e-commerce, but the logic applies to every local website just the same: load fast and you hold attention – and more attention means more enquiries.
Today Google measures the loading experience through the Core Web Vitals. The key metric for perceived speed is Largest Contentful Paint (LCP): it captures when the largest visible content has loaded. Google's guidance is clear – a good LCP is 2.5 seconds or less. Anything above that needs improvement, and above 4 seconds is considered poor.
These scores also feed into your Google ranking. A slow site therefore loses twice: with visitors and in search.
Speed does not come from a single trick, but from a clean technical foundation:
Many builder and off-the-shelf websites fail exactly here: they look fine at first glance but carry so much ballast that load time suffers – and enquiries with it.
At fischerdev we build websites for local businesses fast and mobile-optimised from the ground up – with clean code, optimised images and performance that passes Google's Core Web Vitals. That turns visitors who would otherwise have bounced into a real enquiry. Let's talk.
